Kamal “DJ Mal” Marell
Kamal Marell, known in creative spaces as DJ Mal, is a Philadelphia-based storyteller, cultural curator, DJ, and first-time docuseries creator and producer. His passion for storytelling began in his teens, rooted in a deep curiosity about people, culture, and history.
As a DJ, Kamal has spent years curating soundscapes that foster connection, celebration, and cultural expression. That same energy flows through In Concert Artist Series—his debut docuseries project—which blends his love for music with visual storytelling to create something both intimate and expansive.

His passion for storytelling began in his teens, rooted in a deep curiosity about people, culture, and history. Drawn to journalism through a love of Black literature and media, Kamal was shaped by iconic publications like Vibe, The Source, and XXL, as well as the cinematic scope of visionaries such as Spike Lee, John Singleton, and Ava DuVernay. Inspired by BET’s Rap City, his 1-on-1 interview style meets artists in their own environments to spark deeper, more authentic conversations. The layered, human-centered storytelling of CBS Sunday Morning further shaped his editorial lens.
